After being defeated in her fight against Amanda Serrano at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York, United States, Erika Cruz said that the judges’ verdict should be a draw instead of victory for the Puerto Rican.
According to the ESPN journalist, Salvador Rodríguez, the Mexican showed her dissatisfaction with the result and did not hide it in her statements. “Thanking God for being healthy and being able to share with my family (…) I thank everyone for the support. I’m not happy with the result, because despite a cut that makes it impossible for me to see, I put up a great fight. I thought I deserved at least a tie, ”he said.
The explosive fight was marked by a clash of heads in the third round that generated a cut on the head of the Aztec boxer and which limited her vision, as seen in the photo shared by Rodríguez.
Despite the fact that he did everything he could to obtain the victory and in the last round he received an express order from the corner to go out and look for the victory, the judges gave Serrano the victory by unanimous decision with partial scores of 97-93, 98-92 and 98-92 on the scorecards.
It should be remembered that both boxers unified the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF featherweight belts. The only missing championship for Serrano was that of the WBA, owned by Cruz.
The Puerto Rican also shared her impressions at the end of the fight and highlighted the hard fight and resistance on the part of the Mexican. “Hard work. That’s what we train for. I knew he was going to want to take my belts. That’s what we’ve been training for. I expected no less than what he gave me,” she pointed out.
Serrano made clear the importance of the indications he received from his corner about the reading of the fight and that they tipped the fight in his favor. “They sent me back to basics. I was listening to my corner that asked me to go to one-two ”, he recounted.
