Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United won the Carabao Cup over Newcastle United and broke the title drought of more than 5 years

Manchester United defeated Newcastle United 2-0 to win the Carabao Cup or League Cup and that breaks a drought of more than 5 years without titles for the Red Devils.

Both goals came in the first half in a game that showed Newcastle better in attack, but when the Magpies played their best, the two goals from the Reds came. The first was in the 33rd minute in a free kick into the area that Casemiro headed in to beat Karius and thus make the score 1-0.

Casemiro has been one of Manchester United’s best reinforcements this season and has led them to fight in all competitions.

Newcastle refused to give up after the first goal, but on a quick counterattack Weghorst gave it to Marcus Rashford, the team’s scorer, he finished off from the left and with the luck of a rebound it was a goal against Sven Botman for the 2-0 at minute 39.

The second half was slower and with a more positional dominance of the United team that knew how to preserve the advantage, but the Magpies tried unsuccessfully to beat the Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea.

Over 87,000 people flocked to Wembley Stadium for the Carabao Cup final. Newcastle United have gone more than 60 years without a title. For its part, this was the sixth title for Manchester United in the League Cup.

The Red Devils last won a title in May 2017 when they defeated Ajax Amsterdam in the Europa League final. In that tournament they were under the leadership of José Mourinho, almost six years later Erik Ten Hag returns them and leads the team to be champion of the tournament.
