A few hours before the grand gala of the The Best AwardsThere are several football figures who are already walking the streets of Paris, the capital of France, where the great event will take place. One of them is the world champion with Argentina, Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martinez.

The Argentine goalkeeper has gone from being an unknown player in the middle of the table until a few years ago, to to be considered one of the best in his position, not only for his great performance in the Qatar 2022 World Cup who helped win the much-awaited trophy for the Albiceleste along with Lionel Messi, but also because of his leadership and background from day to day in the English Premier League with Aston Villa.

Asked about his chances of winning The Best award for best player (he would be the first goalkeeper to do so), Dibu was categorical and did not rule out the struggle: “Hopefully, whatever God wants”.

The nominees to win The Best Award in addition to Dibu Martínez

After separating from the magazine French Football In 2016, after several years awarding the Ballon d’Or, FIFA created The Best award that crowned the best in the world for an entire calendar year, in addition to other awards for the best soccer player, goalkeeper, coach, to name a few.

Among the nominees for best soccer player are, in addition to Dibu Martínez, his compatriot Lionel Messi, who completed a great World Cup in Qatar after a very irregular season despite his high salary at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner, Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), is also on the list. Everything indicates that the final podium will be between ‘El Gato’, Mbappé and Messi, so Dibu Martínez, 30, will have to settle for going to win the Best Goalkeeper award.

The gala will be this Monday, February 27 at 12:00 PT and 15:00 ET. It will be broadcast worldwide through the FIFA channel on YouTube, as well as on the FIFA.com portal. The television stations Fox Sports, Fox Deportes, Telemundo Deportes and Universo.
