This September one of those anime that seems mandatory is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. We tell you everything you need to know about the show.
Remember when Cyberpunk was being touted as the next game of the year and that experience that was going to change the way we looked at gaming? ENTER.CO remembers. Part of this upbeat mood for the title was reflected in the impossible number of projects that were announced at the time, including an anime series for Netflix.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners, which is the name of the show, released a new preview. So at ENTER.CO we felt this is the best time to put together a list of all the facts we know about the show.
Where will it be broadcast?
Only on Netflix.
When will it be released?
For now, the show has a premiere date of September 2022, without a more specific window.
Is it inspired by the game?
Yes, but it is not an adaptation. Instead, both the story and the characters that are original. The series, however, will take some elements of the game and adapt them. For example, in one of the previews we see the protagonist use the Kerenzikov effect skill, which, like the video game, allows you to dodge attacks by ‘slowing down time’.
What voice actors are involved?
From left to right: Michiko Kaiden (Dance Dance Danseur) as Dorio, Hiroki Touchi (D.Gray-man) as Maine, Aoi Yuki as Lucy (My Hero Academia), Kenn (Kyoka no Kanata) as David Martinez, Wataru Takagi as Pilar (Detective Conan), Tomoyo Kurosawa (Hibike! Euphonium) as Rebecca, and Takako Honda (Naruto) as Kiwi.
What will Cyberpunk: Edgerunners be about?
The story will star David, a boy who meets Lucy, a famous hacker from Night City. Thanks to her, he decides to take the route of becoming an edgerunner, a mercenary in charge of cleaning the city of the most dangerous criminals. Of course, he can’t do this without the help of a team that’s about as bizarre as you’d expect from mod city.
What is the study in charge?
Cyberpunk Edgerunners was produced by Studio Trigger. In fact, some of the names associated with the project may be familiar to anime fans. Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare) is directing, along with Hiromi Wakabayashi (Kill la Kill) who supports him in creative development. Character design was by Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal), while music for the series was composed by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill).
