Disney will no longer produce a Star Wars Rogue Squadron movie • ENTER.CO

Bad news, pilots. The Star Wars Rogue Squadron movie appears to have been cancelled. The report comes after various outlets noted that Lucasfilm has quietly removed the project from its schedule.

The news is also important because, with this, there is no future project of the Star Wars franchise for the big screen. The studio also doesn’t appear to be actively working on any films, even if there is talk of trilogies or films being talked about. The next Star Wars movie is indeed set in a galaxy far, far away.

There were good reasons to be excited. The film was going to take as inspiration one of the most popular games in the franchise and one of the elements that made the original classic science fiction films: dogfights in space. The project also has much more progress, which inspired confidence that it would not end up being one of the ‘cancelled’. The film was going to be directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) and was planned to come out in Christmas 2023.

Last year things were already looking rocky for the Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron. Not only because Disney, little by little, moved away from the big screen and bet more on streaming, but also because reports assured that there were conflicts in the calendar with Jenkins. The director is reportedly working on a third Wonder Woman movie (for which Warner has made no updates) and an undated Cleopatra-inspired film starring Gal Gadot.
