When can the CTPS be an identification document?

As it is an important document for every worker, it is important to issue it as soon as possible, if you are at least 16 years old or older. Below you will see which documents are required to obtain a Work and Social Security Card (CTPS):
- Identification document (front back);
- Proof of residence (only valid for the last three months);
- Military service discharge certificate (18-year-old men only).
The document can also be made through the CTPS Digital application that allows the worker to check his situation in the company he works for, checking if the company is fulfilling its obligations and other related matters.
Does CTPS serve as an identification document to vote?
The CTPS can be used as an identification document to vote. On February 10, 2020, the Work and Social Security Card that previously served as a valid identification document is no longer valid.

In 2020, the document stopped being valid for identification. However, on 4/28, the ban on using the document for identification was revoked by Joint Ordinance TRE-CE number 14/2020. However, Provisional Measure number 905/2019 was repealed. Any voter who has the CTPS can present the document to vote.
Like the CTPS, other documents are also valid for electoral proof, such as a Passport, Identity Card and CNH. Documents that have a photo of the holder of the document are valid for presentation.

CTPS Digital is an application to create a workbook. The app provides all information about the worker and the contracting companies. On the platform, it is possible to check all the important data of the citizen’s professional life, such as date of entry, salary and others.
Does it work as an identification document?
Only the paper version of the CTPS serves as an identification document. This means that CTPS Digital does not work as an identification document, as some documents such as CNH and Identity Card cannot be replaced.
Currently, CTPS Digital works for various purposes, such as travel, withdrawing FGTS, proof of income or checking the registration status of companies and checking data.
