In recent years, dietary coconut oil has become known for its many health benefits. According to some researchers, it improves brain function and cardiovascular health and reduces bad cholesterol levels. Outdoors, it is often used in health rituals and beauty products such as mouthwash, skin moisturizer, makeup remover, etc. But did you know that you can invent your own coconut oil hair mask to use as a weekly nourishing care? See how to do it!
What are the benefits of coconut oil hair mask?
As you can imagine, hair coloring, styling, drying, and exposure to environmental influences weaken hair over time and damage it. Fortunately, there are natural and affordable ways to protect your hair from this damage and clean it. Due to its unique chemical structure, coconut butter is one of the beneficial plant oils for you and that goes for your hair as well. What exactly are its benefits and how can you make the most of it through a coconut oil hair mask? Research has shown that coconut oil is capable of:
reduce protein loss
Hair is protein and consists of three layers. Chemical, mechanical and thermal treatments of your hair cause the loss of proteins that make up the cortex (the middle layer which is the thickest). A 2017 review of studies confirmed that coconut oil reduced protein loss when used as a cleanser before and after washing.
nourish the hair from within
It has been established that coconut oil has a low molecular weight compared to other types of vegetable oils. This peculiarity facilitates the absorption of oil in the hair shaft, which nourishes it deeply.
Since butter penetrates the hair shaft better, it can also help protect your hair from drying out. A coconut oil hair mask therefore has an important moisturizing effect.
According to research, coconut oil can also relieve inflammation due to eczema on the skin or scalp in children, reduce dandruff thanks to its antimicrobial, antifungal and moisturizing properties, and even protect you from lice when combined with anise!
Coconut butter for what type of hair?
Most hair types can benefit from more hydration and less protein loss. However, a coconut oil hair mask is especially beneficial if your hair is dry, curly or frizzy or is likely to break. Curly-haired girls who lack elasticity will be happy with the effects of coconut butter on their fairies.
Coconut Oil Hair Mask – Basic Recipe
You can make a simple coconut oil hair mask using just 2 tablespoons of melted butter. For best results, use unrefined organic oil. So protect your clothes by putting a towel around your neck. You can also apply the treatment in the shower, on wet hair. Otherwise, dampen your hair before starting.
Then separate the hair into 3 or 4 sections to facilitate the application of hot (not hot) oily pomade. Distribute it evenly over the lengths of the hair, avoiding the roots and insisting on the ends. Of course, this is even more true if you have oily roots and dry ends.
After covering all of your hair, place a shower cap on your head and let the mask sit for 1-2 hours. Some people like to let it act overnight for deeper conditioning. Finally, rinse with warm water, shampoo and condition or revitalize as usual.
