In a meeting with quite dynamism, Club América defeated UANL Tigres 0-2 as a visitor on matchday 11 of the 2023 Clausura Tournament of Liga MX and extended its hegemony at the Estadio Universitariowhere he accumulates five victories and a draw in the last six duels.

Both squads showed a frenetic pace from minute one. During the first bars, the Águilas del América dominated the match and at 2 ′ Jonathan ‘Cabecita’ Rodríguez had a dangerous action, but his shot did not end inside the three posts.

After the first quarter of an hour, the locals established themselves in the game and began to dominate on the wings where a fine Diego Lainez became a nuisance for the American defense. Before half an hour, Tigres had a golden opportunity to go ahead after an overflow from the former Real Betis player that Juan Pablo Vigón finished off first and put between the three sticks, but was rejected on the line by Emilio Lara.

The play did not end there and as if it were a moving penalty, Sebastián Córdova caught the rebound, but sent it to the upper part of the stands.

At 32′, ‘Cabecita’ Rodríguez would wreak havoc on the left after Leonardo Suárez combined Henry Martín into a wall and opened the ball for the Uruguayan striker who did not spare Nahuel Guzmán with a strong cross shot to the far post.

For the second half, the context defined the roles of the commitment, since the Azulcrema decided to establish a mid-low block, while those led by ‘Chima’ Ruiz exerted more advanced pressure to try to come back.

Tigres had a few chances in the early stages of the second half, but the minutes that followed were thick and not very fluid. At 79 ′, Club América sealed the match with 0-2 thanks to a counterattack play that was born from a corner kick from the locals.

Roger Martínez passed the ball to Leonardo Suárez and in a two-on-one action, the Argentine gave the ball to Diego Valdés, who, after dribbling past the defender, returned the courtesy to the striker so that he scored practically from an empty goal.

With this victory, the Águilas extend their consecutive wins against Tigres de la UANL to eight. André Pierre Gignac’s men have not won at home against the Azulcremas since 2017. With today’s, it’s been 35 years since this confrontation ended with goals in the score.

Club América is in fourth place with 20 points, while the Monterrey team is in second place in the table with 21 points.
