Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández scored the goal of honor for the LA Galaxy in the 2-1 loss against New York City FC in what was the Los Angeles team’s second friendly game in 2023 before the start of the season on February 25.
The California team was down a goal by nil until minute 51 of the game when the Mexican striker appeared to receive a ball from ‘Memo Rodríguez’ centered from the right wing. The striker received with his right leg and crossed the ball.
After the goal, things did not improve for the Galaxy, as in the final minutes of the game John Denis unlocked the score after completing an individual move that sealed the 2-1 lead at Dignity Health Sports Park.
It should be remembered that the Mexican player had already had some filming after making his debut in the first days of January in a seven-a-side soccer match of the new Kings League, a tournament that takes place in Barcelona, Spain and is under the tutelage of Gerard Piqué , various streamers and former professional gamers.
In that match, Hernández started and although he did not score, he had an outstanding performance and crashed three balls into the posts. The next duel for ‘Chicharito’ and his team will be on Wednesday, February 8 against St. Louis City SC on TBC USA.
Subsequently, the Los Angeles squad will continue in preseason mode, playing three more friendlies vs. Timbers, New York RB, and Toronto. Galaxy will debut in MLS 2023 with the city classic against Los Angeles FC (LAFC) on February 26.
Carlos Vela’s team is the current MLS champion and they were in charge of dispatching ‘Chicharito’ Hernández’s team in the conference semifinals. Now, in this new championship, 493 games will be played.
