Even though it was short Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández’s passing through Real Madrid is still remembered with great affection both for the club and for its fans. The Mexican striker was only with the Meringues for one season and left his mark with 9 goals and 5 assists in 31 games he played, most coming from the bench as a replacement for Karim Benzema.
The Chicharito left memorable goals, like the one that marked Deportivo La Coruña at the corner for the Spanish League; but the one that is most loved and celebrated was the one that served Real Madrid to eliminate their city rival, Atlético de Madridand thus go to the semifinal phase of the UEFA Champions League 14-15.
Precisely on the occasion of the decisive game that the White House will face this Thursday against their mattress rivals, the club wanted to remember that decisive goal that also occurred ‘in extremis’ in the last minutes of that duel.
Under the new format of the Copa del Rey, the duel will be a single match, so whoever wins will go to the semifinals of the tournament. After losing to their staunch rival FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup, Real Madrid is forced to win this match and move on.
