Qualcomm closed the week by presenting its new processors for high and medium range cell phones. This is the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 premium level chip, which will give life to the most advanced smartphones on the market; and the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, which in addition to being the first to be part of the 7 series, is designed especially for gamers and will power mid-segment devices. What are their characteristics?
During the presentation on May 20, it was learned that the manufacture of the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 is in the hands of TSMC this time and not Samsung, which was the company in charge of manufacturing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Regarding its characteristics, aspects such as the improvement of up to 10% in the performance of both the CPU and the GPU stand out: a detail that responds to some criticism that Qualcomm has received about not offering a performance of its processors capable of staying in time. In addition to the above, both chip components also achieved a 30% improvement in power efficiency.
The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which has support for video recording in 8K resolution and also for HDR video capture and 200-megapixel photo capture, will be part of the next models that brands like Asus will launch between August and October 2022 ROG, Black Shark, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Osom, realme, RedMagic, Redmi, vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE.
About the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1
For its part, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, which was designed for mid-range equipment and makes its way through the four-nanometer transistor manufacturing process, has an updated Adreno GPU that improves graphics by 20%; with support for QHD + screen at 60 Hz and FHD + at 144 Hz, and with a camera of up to 200 Mpx. The chip has 4.4Gbs offload capabilities and is equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 and sixth generation Wi-Fi.
The mobile references that will have this processor will begin to hit the market from June 2022 and belong to brands such as Xiaomi, OPPO and Honor.
