In a major interview in Los Angeles Times tells Drew Barrymore about the difficult time after her divorce from Will Kopelman, when she fell victim to alcoholism – an addiction that her friend Cameron Diaz helped her break.
It is common knowledge that Drew Barrymore’s upbringing was far from harmonious: Barrymore went from making her big impact in E.T to struggle with drug addiction, something that caused her to end up in rehab already as a teenager.
As an adult, Barrymore again fell victim to addiction – after her devastating divorce from Will Kopelman in 2016, the star turned to alcohol to cope with the ensuing depression. In a major interview in Los Angeles Times says Barrymore that the problems were so severe that her therapist stopped working with her:
“He just said, ‘I can’t do this anymore,'” she says. “It was about my drinking. I said, ‘I understand. I have never respected you this much. You can see I’m not getting better. And I hope that one day I can regain your trust.’”

Cameron Diaz: “Had complete confidence in her”
Another person who experienced Barrymore’s problem with alcohol first hand was her friend of many years, Cameron Diaz. In the article i Los Angeles Times says Diaz that Barrymore’s fight was “hard to watch.”
“But I knew that if we all stayed by her side and gave her the support she needed, she would find a way out. I had complete confidence in her. You can’t understand how hard it was for her as a child, and then she came out the other side with the ability to save herself.”
With the support of his friends – and the motivation to get his new talk show The Drew Barrymore Show to function, Barrymore managed to get sober.
“I think the possibility of having a show like this really hit me,” Barrymore tells i Los Angeles Times. I thought, ‘I’m not going to fix this unless I’m very clear in my head.’
