Between the more than 35,000 victims that are already accounted for the earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria it’s found a female basketball player, whose death was confirmed by the Turkish Basketball Federation in social networks.
Nilay Aydogannational player ofe Cankaya University, one of the teams in the Women’s Basketball Super League, was found lifeless among the ruins left by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred last week.
“It is with deep sadness that we learn that Nilay Aydoğanthe national player of Çankaya University, one of the teams in the ING Women’s Basketball Super League, lost his life in the earthquake disaster. May God have mercy on the deceased, we express our condolences to his family, relatives and basketball community,” the federation published on its official Twitter account.
“Unfortunately, we have received the news of the death of our national basketball player Nilay Aydogan, who was under the rubble in Malatya after the earthquake disaster. May God have mercy on our athlete. My condolences to his family and our community, ”added former player Hidayet Türkoğlu, current adviser to the president of Turkey, and who played 15 NBA seasons, with teams like the Orlando Magic and the LA Clippers.
