The world’s most talked about perfume went from being released in a limited edition to achieving cult status on social media. Here’s everything you need to know about the acclaimed Baccarat Rouge 540 fragrance.
Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum from Maison Francis Kurkdjian may have achieved an enviable level of popularity on TikTok – where the hashtag #baccaratrouge540 has over 285 million views at the time of writing – but what has become the world’s most talked about perfume was never really intended to be a fragrance for the masses.
“Smells like being rich”
At the launch of Baccarat Rouge 540 only 250 bottles were produced, this on the occasion of the French glass company Baccarat’s 250th anniversary. However, the scent soon proved to have a much greater potential:
“We knew it was an exceptional fragrance, so about a year later we decided to include it in the Maison’s range. The first batch, which was supposed to last for six months, sold out in less than a month,” Francis Kurkdjian, founder of Maison Francis Kurkdjian, tells Harper’s Bazaar.
The successes would not end there. When it was revealed that the scent was a Rihanna favorite, it inevitably gained a new fan base, but many believe that it was TikTok that made Baccarat Rouge 540 achieved its current cult status.
On the platform it is said that the perfume makes you “smell like you are rich”. Others say it’s unbeatable when it comes to generating compliments. What they all have in common is the opinion that the scent is absolutely fantastic – something that the following clip illustrates:
