Two years ago the actor Armie Hammer was involved in the controversy due to the accusations made against him by several womenarguing that he had sexually and emotionally abused them, which led him to enter a rehabilitation clinic and lose many opportunities for film work.

Now Hammer -36 years old- has given his own version of events in an interview with air mailrevealing that at the age of 13 he was sexually abused by a Protestant pastor and that this had an effect on his behavior, although he denies having committed crimes: “What that did for me was that it introduced sexuality into my life in a way that was completely out of my control. I had no power in that situation. Sexuality was presented to me in a terrifying way where I had no control. My interests then were: I want to be in control of the situation.”

On one of his trips to the Cayman Islands and after the premiere of the documentary “House of Hammer” -in which his alleged victims delved into their preferences- Armie contemplated suicide: “I went out to sea and swam as far as I could in the hope of drowning or getting hit by a boat, or eaten by a shark. Then I realized that my children were still on land and that I couldn’t do that to them.”

In his rehabilitation Armie Hammer received support from actor Robert Downey Jr. and is now considered recovered: “There are examples everywhere, Robert is one of them, of people who went through those things and found redemption through a new path. And that, I think, is what’s missing from this cancel culture business. The moment someone does something bad, they throw it away. There is no possibility of rehabilitation.” Although he has not revealed if he has any new professional project, for now he is focused on leaving all the controversy behind: “I am here to admit my mistakes, take responsibility for the fact that I was an idiot, that I was selfish, that I used to people to make me feel better, and when I was done, I moved on. Now I am a healthier, happier and more balanced person…I am truly grateful for my life and my recovery”.
