the rematch between Amanda Serrano and katie taylor will have to wait a little longer, since this Tuesday it was announced that the Puerto Rican boxer suffered an injury that will prevent the fight from taking place on May 20.
Matchroom Boxing, the company promoting the show, announced it through a statement, in which they emphasize that there is still no new date for the match, but that more information on the subject will be announced soon.
“Due to an injury sustained by (Amanda) Serrano, Matchroom Boxing and Most Valuable Promotions regret to announce that the Taylor-Serrano II fight May 20 in Dublin will not take place as planned“Matchroom Boxing announced in a written communication.
“The representatives are in talks to find an alternate date for the fight.. More details will be provided in due course,” the letter added.
What is not specified is what is the injury that Carolina, Puerto Rico has; although it is also expected that the details will come to light in the coming days.
The fight was agreed upon by the titles of the World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
The first time these boxers met It was on April 30, 2022 at Madison Square Garden, where the Irish woman triumphed and retained the 135-pound belts by split decision.
Since then, Serrano has fought twice more and won both times, including the one on February 4, when became the first person from Puerto Rico to unify all world titles by defeating Mexico’s Érika Cruz by unanimous decision.
Currently the Puerto Rican has a record of 44-2-1, while the Irish has an undefeated pace of 22-0-0.
