After a controversy that lasted several months, Alejandro Zendejas officially announced his decision as to which country to represent internationally. Through a statement on his Instagram account, the player explained his reasons and permanently closed the doors of the Tri.
The footballer’s words were replicated on the Twitter account of the North American team. “I am very proud to be a Mexican American. The values of both cultures have made me the person I am today and I have had the privilege of living in both countries. I am very grateful for all the opportunities that the United States and Mexico have given me and my family, ”he began.
Zendejas explained that making this decision was not easy for him and in the epilogue of it he thanked everyone for their support. “Making a decision about my international career is very difficult, and I think you should follow your heart. Mine tells me that my future is representing America. I am excited about this next chapter and working to earn a place with the USMNT. Thank you all for your incredible support,” he said.

After confirmation, the USMNT welcomed the player. OFFICIAL: Alex Zendejas has pledged to the USMNT. The announcement generated opinions from fans on social networks, who were mostly happy with the player’s determination to represent the Stars and Stripes team.
“We are proud to have you”; “I love the stance the USMNT is taking. Let the players decide and follow their hearts. You won’t win every battle, but the ones you do win will want to show why they chose us and that will make things much better in the long run,” some netizens wrote on Twitter.
Alejandro Zendejas was on El Tri’s radar with Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino and now Diego Cocca. The Juárez-born winger became a naturalized American and managed to play matches with the USMNT in its under-17 category and the senior team, but in unofficial matches.
