By the Waterfalls of Vila de Rei It is a journey worth taking at any time of the year. Visitors are mostly lovers of nature tourism, but the walk attracts more and more families and groups of friends who opt for outdoor leisure activities.
Organized by ZêzereTrek, the route is adapted to the needs of its customers. Whatever the intended type of walk – from photographic walks to more relaxed ones, requiring more or less physical effort – this is a walk that guarantees moments of delight in contact with Nature.
By the Waterfalls: everything you need to know
The tour of the Vila de Rei Waterfalls can be done during the year. The trail itself starts at Largo da Vila and passes along the Lavadouro stream, the Vale Feito stream and the Vila stream.
Along the walk you will be able to observe not only the formation of several waterfalls – which spring from the wild landscape -, but also the richness of the fauna and flora of the region. It lasts approximately 4 hours and the only requirements are comfortable shoes and a good mood.
Vila de Rei belongs to the district of Castelo Branco and is the Geodetic Center of Portugal. 10 kilometers from the village you can visit the Schist Village of Água Formosawhich is hidden between Ribeira da Corga and Ribeira da Galega, on a sunny slope.
Penedo Furado walkways
Also in Vila de Rei are the Penedo Furado Walkways, which connect the River Beach to the waterfalls.
The construction work took about 4 months and represented an investment of more than 90 thousand euros. Basically, these walkways enrich one of the most visited places in the municipality, making visiting the area more pleasant, safe and accessible.
The route extends over 532 linear meters, with a bridge at the end of the route. Along the trail, you can find resting platforms, benches and viewpoints, from where you can admire the landscape of mountains, hills and houses, the Ribeira do Codes and the dam reservoir. Castelo do Bode dam.
At this moment, some routes and pedestrian routes are already available, such as: the Bufareiras Trail, the Conheiras Route, the Great Silver and Gold Route and the Great Zêzere Route.
