Inserted in Serra da Estrela, the Mondego Walkways have already opened to the public and promise 12 breathtaking kilometers.
There is a new reason to visit the Guarda region. You Mondego walkways have already been inaugurated and offer 12 kilometers of unique landscapes, along the banks of the Mondego river and its tributaries.
This new attraction is inserted in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park and at the UNESCO World Star Geopark.
Of the 12 kilometers in length, almost 7 kilometers can be covered by wooden walkways, along the slopes of the mountain. The rest of the route is done on existing trails and paths.
By making this crossing, you will get to know the region better as you pass by three suspension bridges, dams, waterfalls, paths, streams, waterways and mills, always surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

When going through the Mondego walkwaysyou will pass through unique villages that definitely deserve your visit.
village of Videmonte
It is here in Videmonte that you will find one end of the Mondego Walkways, where you can start your journey.
Located 22 kilometers from the city of Guarda, this is where the highest point in the municipality is located, marked by the Geodesic landmark of Cabeça Alta.
Videmonte knows how to welcome those who pass by, who are not indifferent to the bread produced in the village. Strong in growing and harvesting rye, grinding it and cooking it in a wood-fired oven, there will be no way to resist.
Also be sure to taste other local products such as water, olive oil and meat balls, and of course Serra da Estrela cheese.
If you start the trail at the other end, at Cascata do Caldeirão, end it at the crystalline waters of Praia Fluvial da Quinta da Taberna, one of the best known places in Videmonte.
village of Thirty
Trinta belongs to the “Aldeias de Montanha”, a group of villages that are located between the Natural Park of Serra da Estrela and the Protected Landscape of Serra da Gardunha.
It is proud to have been the first village in the district of Guarda to have electricity and to preserve the memory of the times when it was an important pole of the wool industry.
Visited by many in June, when people celebrate in the village like the Jornadas da Lã, who want to know more about its traditions, while enjoying its beauty.
Aldeia de Trinta has about 410 inhabitants and is one of the villages on the Mondego Walkways that can be seen during the infrastructure route. Be sure to visit the Igreja Matriz dos Trinta, the Chapel of Senhora das Candeias, the Chapel of Senhora do Soito and the Chapel of Espírito Santo.
The other starting point of the Mondego Walkways is at the Caldeirão Dam.
Take the opportunity to rest in the “natural swimming pool”, inaugurated in 2019, inserted in an area with changing rooms, café and lawns.
Another fantastic place that you can visit right next door is the Miradouro do Mocho Real. Don’t be afraid for the small climb on foot, because it will be well worth it to enjoy the landscape that you will find
The viewpoint, which is 700 meters high, is made up of granite rocks and offers an excellent view of the Mondego valley, the Caldeirão waterfall and the dam of the same name.
Mondego walkways: prepare your visit
When visiting the Mondego Walkways, avoid the hottest days and peak hours.
The route can be started at both ends, according to your preference: one located in the town of Videmonte and the other at the Caldeirão Dam.
The entry fee is 1 euro, and children up to 12 years old are free. Tickets can be purchased on the website of the Municipality of Guarda.
The tour can be done every day, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
