If you travel through Germany, it is very likely that as soon as you arrive you realize how far you are from the tropical beaches and their rogue waves. But you couldn’t be more wrong…
There is a “tropical island” in Germany, but it can only be found in the most unlikely part of the continent – an old, refurbished airplane hangar.
This is the so-called “Tropical Islands Resort” in Brandenburg, Germany. It might not look like a sunny day at the beach, but wait until you see inside.
Once you step inside the dome, you are immediately transported to the tropics!
The temperature outside oscillates between 7 and 15 degrees, so being able to get away to this island is truly amazing.
The complex is located in an old hangar that has quite impressive dimensions.
Once named the Aerium, this hangar is 365 meters long, 213 meters wide and 106 meters high.
Bought by a Malaysian company in 2003, the former hangar is now dedicated to bringing the tropical experience to Northern Europe.
They even have flamingos!
In fact, it is home to the largest indoor rainforest in the world.
The internal temperature is kept at a cozy 25 degrees.
Overnight housing is available for those who want an extended stay.
You can even swim at night!
Or have a drink in the many themed bars within the complex.
A village is located just a few meters from the pool area.
The children’s play area has plenty of options for family fun.
But really, this place is huge!
There is even a camping area where you can sleep on the beach!
…So you will never be far from relaxation.
Even if there is no snow outside.
I am in love with this place.
When do we go?
If you don’t have the time or money to go to the actual tropics, this seems like a more affordable option. I mean, how many beaches have their own hot air balloon?
