The Victorian age alludes to the period of the reign of Queen Victoria, and that covers from the year 1877 to 1901.
It is popularly believed that they were moments of seriousness and boredom. The people who lived at that time had to appear to lead a strict life, so there was no time to have fun in any way.
If you look at the photos from that time period, we might think it’s true. Back then, cameras had nothing to do with today’s: Louis Daguerre had only introduced the daguerreotype in 1839.
To get a photograph, the camera had to expose the film between a few seconds and 15 minutes.
For an image to come out in acceptable condition, the Victorians had to stay completely still, including facial expressions, or they would ruin the photo. That is why the photography of that time gave rise to many funny situations when seeing the final image.
As cameras became more sophisticated, the subjects of photography began to let go. Resulting in a few rare photos that show a different side of Victorians than what we are used to.
After seeing all the photos you will realize that there is not much difference between what they did and what we do today.
